United for Respect (UFR) is a multiracial national nonprofit organization organizing people working in retail and fighting for fair, safe, and bold legislative and corporate policies that improve the lives of people who work in the sector. UFR is advancing a movement for an economy where corporations respect working people and support a democracy that allows everyone to live and work in dignity. We are building the 21st Century labor movement and we need a highly organized and motivated communications coordinator phenomenal to help us strategize and implement campaigns to build a world where we can all live and work in dignity.
Through strategic communications engagement, innovating digital strategies, scaled leadership development and base-building, UFR’s growing network is challenging major corporations and policymakers to provide family-sustaining jobs for all working people. We leverage technology — social media and our digital platform, WorkIt — and bring the retail workforce into a shared community of support and advocacy.
ABOUT UFR AT AMAZON
United for Respect (UFR) at Amazon is growing a high impact field team to grow the leadership of working people at Amazon to win game changing campaigns and family-sustaining jobs.
Through online to field organizing, this organizer will build strong worker leadership that will move policymakers, community, coworkers and Amazon to change it’s workplace policies.
We are seeking an organizer who will:
Build a broad base and strong leadership of people working across Amazon and in key states to support each other to enforce their rights and advance policy and industry change campaigns through UFR’s online to field organizing model that will include online social media communities, peer to peer texting and field outreach.
Develop and build leadership committees to drive public and corporate policy campaigns through an inclusive process that develops membership organizing and advocacy skills, generates bold action, moves policy makers and educates the public.
Driving team members to achieve organizing goals and outcomes.
Work with the staff and partners to organize actions, press events and prepare testimony for public hearings.
Develop the leadership of working people to share their stories with each other and publicly, with the media and online.
Support leading strategy development and growth plans to the organizing program and campaigns.
Build meaningful partnerships with community and policy allies to support campaigns, our members, and core organizing work.
Once trained, ability to lead, develop and train partner organizations in our online to field organizing model.
Minimum 2 years organizing campaign experience, ideally with organizing workers and using digital tools.
Strong writing, research and communication skills.
Strong listening, persuasion and facilitation skills.
Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by low-income communities of color.
Ability to work independently, navigate obstacles, discern priorities, meet competing deadlines and handle multiple projects. As a remote position this job requires an ability to drive work independently without going into an office.
Strong database management skills that inform analysis of the base and strategy.
Some familiarity with digital tools and online to offline organizing.
Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
Strong team player who is willing to wear multiple hats, work well with others from different backgrounds and lived experience.
Must have car and be able to drive and maintain a valid driver’s license, and travel as needed on a regular basis.
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Experience working at Amazon is a major plus.
Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000 annually depending on experience and location.
Competitive benefits package provided for full-time employees and eligible dependents, including health, dental, vision, and prescription coverage and 401k. Ability to travel is a must.
